I thought I was doing everything right.
Heart disease runs in my family, you see, and my mother, father, sister, and grandparents (on both sides) have all grappled with hypertension, some even heart attacks, but I thought I was safe, that I’d dodged that bullet, and had done everything necessary to protect myself from sharing their fate.
By everything, I mean that for 30 years I had not eaten any red meat or any pork, and for the past 15 years, my wife and I were nearly fully vegan, forgoing eating all fish, chicken, turkey, eggs, and dairy products, and sticking to organic produce whenever possible. We exercised daily and decided together to turn our passion for helping others into a career. We then immersed ourselves into a full year of study at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in New York City, vastly expanding our skills and breadth of knowledge, and in September, 2014, finally became certified as Health Coaches.
STILL, despite all that, 11 days after my 50th birthday, I suffered a “mild” heart attack. What the Hell? How could this happen? I was shocked and humbled. It made no sense to me.
Because, like I said, I was doing so much right. Nearly everything right in fact. But it was those small things I had missed that made all the difference in my health and that ultimately led to my heart attack.
Now after extensive research I’ve found the answer to preventing and actually reversing heart disease in the work of the renowned trailblazing Doctors, Caldwell B. Esselstyn, former cardiac surgeon and researcher at the esteemed Cleveland Clinic, and T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., author of The China Study. With their simple, scientifically proven, and easy to understand and follow approach in hand, I’ve refocused my energies and efforts and am now specializing in helping others like myself who have either suffered from heart disease or are at risk for it. Together, we work to make their lives healthier, happier, more active and with more satisfaction and greater longevity.
